A Chicagoland food delivery company is reinventing your dinner.
For the last few years, meal delivery services have been a popular trend among consumers due to the convenience and ease of ordering from a mobile device. More recently, and due to the current pandemic, the industry has been exploding, especially with senior citizens with restricted access to many parts of the community. While many may already be familiar with the "blue-chip" brands such as Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, there's a major contender right here in Chicagoland - Meal Village.

"Delivering high quality, ready-to-eat, freshly prepared meals, made right here in the Chicagoland area has always been one of our top priorities", says Ravi Ayyalaraju, CEO and co-founder of Meal Village. Ravi and his team prepare, cook and deliver meals to over 80 cities and towns in Illinois on a daily basis, with no cooking required to the consumer. With their unique approach to meal delivery, all the customer has to do is order on the Meal Village app, and then just "heat and eat".
Pandemic Will Gone But Your Safety Is Our Responsibility
As the current pandemic continues to create restricted access to more and more public places and services, seniors have been a growing market for Meal Village due to its no-prepping and no-cooking model. Ravi noted that about half of the seniors they serve on a daily basis are being done so through a third party, like a son or a daughter ordering on their behalf. "Our customers think of us as a meal replacement service as opposed to take-out or to-go restaurant food", Ravi explained. He added that the menu is designed to reflect meals similar to what many families would sit around the dinner table and eat together. He added, "We're going far beyond just burgers or chicken tenders here". Meal Village's menu items include entrees, soups, salads, kids meals and more, all of which are made locally at their commercial kitchen in Lisle, IL.
When Customers Equate Choice With Quality
While seniors have been a growing trend for Meal Village, others are flocking to the meal delivery service for other reasons. Ravi finds that many consumers prefer food that was prepared locally, never frozen, and delivered on a daily basis. "Consumers demand quality, and they want to know where the food comes from that they serve to their family" he noted. Ravi also cited the fact that the food served at Meal Village does not require any cooking, and therefore no cleaning either. Ravi added, "Parents are ordering from us to help them spend more time with their kids, and not more dishes to do after dinner".

Currently, Meal Village operates and delivers to those in the Chicagoland area only as the company feels it is important to keep the food they serve fresh and local. We asked Ravi if Meal Village has plans to expand and go outside of Illinois. He responded, "Maybe one day, but for now we're going to focus on taking care of the seniors and families in and around Chicagoland with fresh food, made locally".
